• Hi,

My current WP site is live. I need to make an improved site with diff theme, so I added WP to a sub-directory. Once completed, I will have the new site replace the existing site in the root directory.

ANYHOW, my problem is that I uploaded the theme from the new dashboard; the files are viewable in the FTP File Mgr. I then removed the WP default sample page. But when I tried to upload the demo content, it failed.

    Process I followed:
    – Added WP Importer plugin
    – Went to Tools, Import, WordPress
    – Selected the XML file (smaller than 25mg)
    – Pressed ‘Upload File & Import’

    The Failure Message I received:

    500: Internal server error
This error is generated when a script running on the server could not be implemented or permissions are incorrectly assigned for files or directories

    Troubleshooting suggestions:

Temporarily disable any rewrite rules by renaming your .htaccess file if it exists.
Ensure that any CGI or Perl scripts have at least .755. permissions.
If trying to run PHP and you get this error, you may have an invalid php.ini in your /cgi-bin, or may be missing your php.dat file in this folder.

I do not understand how to fix the issue given the message above. This is my first time creating a site in the sub-directory.

    Any help would be great!

    Thanks.

What demo content are you trying to upload?

    Hi,

I am trying to upload the WP Super Spark theme demo content, superspark.wordpress.2013-01-24.xml. It is 842 KB.

I called the web host & they suggested there is a problem with my wireless connection. I am going to try to upload from a different location tomorrow, but if it doesn’t work, I am not sure how to proceed. I will update this tomorrow & let you know.

    Thanks.

For a laugh, try this one: https://wpcom-themes.svn.automattic.com/demo/theme-unit-test-data.xml

It’s the official WPORG theme test. Maybe it’s the XML itself.

Ooooh wow! I was totally able to upload the test file.

The only difference i can see is that the test file ended in txt, but the theme file did not.
    TEST FILE NAME: theme-unit-test-data.xml.txt
    THEME FILE NAME: superspark.wordpress.2013-01-24.xml

Also, I just clicked the theme file name & a message came up:
This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

So is this an XML file issue?

Thanks again for your help! Very much appreciated.

It’s definitely a theme issue. Have you spoken to the theme’s developers about it?

Rename the .txt file to .xml for one, and try that. If that doesn’t work, then you have to ask the theme dev.
