  • the source of your front page says you still have 2.6.2 files on the site. you need to upload the 2.7 files first. and if you did, you missed the wp-includes/version.php

I ran into the same problem with the upgrade failure. As a byproduct of using Win-hoze as the operating system, of course I downloaded the WP 2.7 ZIP version. The ZIP basically contained a handful of files and that was what created the problem. The WP folks have a pair for throwing that ZIP file out there. It contains no wp-admin directory and 1/2 the files in the wp-includes directory are missing. Basically… the ZIP file is trash.

So, here’s what I did to fix the problem.
    – Download the tar.gz file and get/use the free 7ZIP utility on the PC to extract the files. The result will be that you can then upload the entire wp-admin and wp-includes directories and also the new files in the root directory.

Follow the documentation if you are unsure of which files to keep and which procedure to follow.

    Notes:
    – I didn’t stop my plugins (but I’d recommend it)
    – Be sure to back up your wp database before starting.
    – The wp-config file needs some changes, etc. (refer to the docs.)

    Best of luck.

thats absolute crap. Even a minimum amount of common sense would tell you that cant be the case, or there would be thousands of posts on here saying that.

Everytime there is a post like this, I go download the zip and unpack it yet again. There’s NOTHING wrong with the zip file.

The real truth is that you need to learn how to unzip files.

And honestly, asking for ‘more help’ from someone that cant overcome an issue with unzipping a file is the wrong direction to take, for anyone on looking for assistance on here.
