Unable to upgrade to latest WordPress

We have version 0.2.4.10 of WP Framework installed on the website. When I tried to upgrade WordPress version from 3.6.1 to the most recent, it wiped out everything. How can I upgrade to the newest version of WordPress, without making too much damage to the website? Or is my only option to upgrade and re-do all the custom work using a different framework?
