• Since moving server I am now unable to upgrade anything, usually comes up an error similar to “Unable to Copy to” occasionally it works but more often than not nothing and it seems top take ages.
I never had to input FTP details but do now, could this be connected?

  • Could be a server configuration problem. Can you try a manual upgrade? It really isn’t as scary as it sounds.

I can manually upgrade anything but I like the facility of doing so via the control panel, it used to work so why not now?

    It’s a server issue.

Please explain, stating “It’s a server issue.” is rather a vague answer.

NO answer from the developers on this problem, I see I am not the only one waiting for a solution.
It would be handy if I could be alerted of replies to this thread via email, is this possible???

you want ‘wordpress’ to fix a problem with your server?

Its an unfortunte fact that the automatic upgrades simply dont work on some servers. thats not wordpress’ fault — its no-one’s fault.

    Imagine the process:

your site has to be able to make a remote connection to another site, and download software from said site, then get it to your site, then unpoack the files, thn move the files, while deleting the old files.

Do you have any idea how many ‘things’ need to be in place for that?

You proved this out in your first sentance:

Since moving server I am now unable to upgrade anything, …

Right there. So it worked on the old server. If it doesn’t work on the new server, than do the manual upgrade, talk to your host, or fix it yourself.

I have 6 sites running WordPress and upgrading manually is a PITA as I am on dial up which is so slow to do anything, no broadband in the sticks.

Give me a clue what to put right and I will try and do it.
