• Hi guys! I’m struggling with the update of the WP and all plugins. I have a big experience with WP but this is the first time that I see such an issue. So what’s going on: when I’m trying to update the WP (now I have WordPress 4.7, it seems that none of the last updates were installed automatically) then I see the line: “Another update process is running”. When I’m trying to update any plugin then I just see the process icon spinning for ages.

I’m trying to fix this problem for many days now and tried everything: waiting, cleaning my cache, contacting the hosting provider, installing “Fix Another Update In Progress” plugin and checking PhpMyAdmin for the “core_updater.lock” option (I don’t have it there). So nothing worked and I still cannot update neither WP nor any plugin (I was able to update the theme though).

Please help me, what else can be the issue?

  • Some approaches :

    – check your version of php using the Control Panel at your host, and upgrade :
    https://timeweb.com/ru/support/faq/hosting/technical/kak-izmenit-versiyu-php-dlya-sayta/

    – use ftp to delete all your plugins

    – manually re-install WordPress :

    using the method under :

    – install an SSL for you domain, you have this error message :
"Mixed Content: The page at 'https://kirbook.ru/wp-login.php?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fkirbook.ru%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1' was loaded over HTTPS, but requested an insecure favicon 'https://kirbook.ru/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/cropped-jenny-book-cover-192x192.png'. What is in your log files? Did you turn on debugging? Do you have a backup that you can restore from?

Mixed content means a picture/link has http instead of https. Check all your pictures and links

You might consider upgrading PHP to 7.4 first. Remove your plugins. Try upgrading WP from 4.7 to 5.6.x.

Hi, thank you for your answers, I will try to upgrade the php version, though I don’t understand why do you both suggest me to delete my plugins? I need to upgrade them not to delete them. I tried to deactivate them all, if you mean that they can influence the upgrade of WP but that didn’t help.

@scsiraidguru Have you read my question? I cannot upgrade to WP 5.6 and that is my problem, that is what I’m actually asking to help me with.

Please remind me what tag to use to attract the attention of happiness engineers?

Yes. Delete you plugins. Then just download, and activate them again.

    – delete your plugins
    – upgrade php to 7.4
    – upgrade WordPress from 4.7 –> 5.6
    – download and activate your plugins
    – upgrade php to 8

If you have issues with the php part, then talk to your host.

    What’s a happiness engineer?
I could use me some of that right now!
