When I try to update Wordfence (6.0.21), I get the following error message:

“An error occurred while updating Wordfence Security: The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions. tmp/configCache.php”

What does this mean? How do I fix it?

  • Hi,

In your Wordfence Options, turning on “Disable config caching”. If the file still exists after that (wp-content/plugins/wordfence/tmp/configCache.php), you can remove manually remove it using FTP. Once the file is removed, try to update again. Let us know if you are still having the issue.

    Thanks!

I had to go in manually and remove the file, but that did the trick.
    Thank you!

    You’re welcome. Glad it helped!
