On several of my sites I am unable to update Wordfence :

The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions.

I’ve checked with my host and they say all server permissions are good – and the tmp file referenced in some error messages isn’t even attached to the root.

Where do I update file permissions?

If the filename is configCache.php, then go to your Wordfence Options page and turn on the option “Disable config caching” and save the options.

In some cases you may need to remove the configCache.php file afterward, and then try the update. (Usually the easiest way is by using FTP or your host’s file manager.)

If you are getting a different filename in the error message, let me know.

The issue in the case above seems to be that the cache file is either in use, or it is removed and re-created during the update attempt, so this usually takes care of the issue. I’m not sure yet why only a few hosts seem to be affected.

Let me know if this helps, or if you are still having trouble.
