Unable to sign up Gmail addresses

    Hi-

    We’re overall very happy with this plugin but recently have noticed a bug.

    Easy Forms for MailChimp refuses to sign up gmail addresses.

    I’ve tested it and so far found it only accepts private domain addresses.

    It will say, “Thank you for subscribing. Check your email for the confirmation message,” but the confirmation email never arrives.

    Please let me know if this is a known issue or an aberration. We can’t not allow gmail addresses to sign up for our newsletters.

    Hi Mari,

    Well, this is bizarre! I tried signing up with a Gmail account and have not received the email… However, when I look at what’s happening when the form is submitted, everything is looking right.

    I haven’t seen this before.

    Do you know when this issue started? Have you made any changes to your list in MailChimp recently?

    My feeling is that this issue is on MailChimp’s side but I am not sure.

    All I can say is, Yikes!

    Sorry, just had to.

    This is a brand new site, so we only have 4 addresses to go by.

    I would take it up with MC if I didn’t have other accounts that like gmail.

    What should we do?

    Haha.

    Do you have any email accounts to test with that aren’t Gmail? Unfortunately I don’t so I can test the form. I have no idea why a gmail account would behave any differently than another email client and my assumption is that the subscriptions would fail for non-Gmail accounts too.

    Have you been able to test this?

    Hi and yes, I did test gmail and domain addresses and only the domain ones sent a confirmation email.

    Looking at MC, all 4 are domain addresses.

    Baffled as you are…

    Hi Mari,

    So weird! Have you tried using a MailChimp hosted form? Or a different plugin? Even if you end up not using our plugin, I’d be interested in knowing if Gmail addresses work w. a different plugin.

    Hi Kevin-

    I did install a MC form and yes, it’s accepting Gmail addies. Sorry to say, but something is wrong in Yikesville.

    I will review the Yikes forms on my other sites to check their acceptance rate.

    Hi – just curious

    Does the gmail address show up in your mailchimp list prior to confirmation? I would think the confirmation email is being sent by Mailchimp – not Yikes?

    Yes, I do remember checking that, and no they did not arrive at MC before not sending the opt-in.

    Still need to cross check on other sites…

    The confirmation email is sent by MailChimp and we have no domain-specific filtering in the plugin. It’s a bizarre problem…

    The issue is still there, I just replaced it with the MC in-house code.
    Still need to cross-check with my other sites though.

    Will get back to you on what I learn.
