• Hi there,

I’m sorry if this has been covered previously, however I cannot find a thread that deals with a website like mine – it displays a slider on the homepage.

I’m using WordPress to build a static site – URL: https://soloscribe.co.uk. I’ve only been building since yesterday with very limited CSS knowledge, so still in the early stages. I’m running the latest version of WordPress 3.3.2. I’m also using theme: Zenon Lite. I’ve contacted the developer regarding my issue, but no response.

As you can see, the landing page of the site is a default which features a slider and other sections. I want to keep this page. The problem is, this “default” page doesn’t exist like the others I’ve manually created when it comes to setting up “Front Page Displays” in Reading Settings. Thing is, I want to create a page entitled BLOG, within which all blog posts will be published. I can’t seem to do so using the “Front Page Displays” setting. If I leave the “Front Page” dropdown untouched and select “BLOG” as the “Posts Page”, the slider and default sections appear in both locations. If I set the Front Page to anything else, I lose my default/landing page (soloscribe.co.uk) with the slider etc. Is there any way around this?

Thank you in advance, any advice would be most appreciated.

    Lis

  • You can do this:

Create a new category named “blog” or anything you like, then mark all the posts you want to display in your blog page with the newly created category.
Then Create a menu this way: https://www.expand2web.com/blog/wordpress-30-custom-navigation-menus-video/
and add the that category to your menu. Now when you click that menu item, all the blogs posts will be displayed.

    Hi,

Thanks so much for your reply and the helpful link. I have created the category as suggested. I also have an existing menu with the “Blog” page. I am unsure how to add the “category” to either the existing menu, or to the blog page? Sorry if it sounds a bit naive, I’m very new to this. Managed all the script stuff, but stuck on this lol. Your advice would be once again, most appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Lis

    I did, yes. It’s https://soloscribe.co.uk

Did you create a category name “blog”? if so,

Go to Appearance> Menus and notice there’s a box on left that says “Categories”. add the item “Blog” to your Menu.

I did. I’ve followed your instructions and this has worked, so many thanks for your continued help. Is there any way I can have Side Bar attributes on this Blog Category? Just so I can display “recent posts”, “recent comments” etc beside my new posts. It’s not a major issue, but I guess could be helpful to site visitors who might find it difficult to navigate to older posts..

    Thank you again

sorry, its not possible, you can add widgets in the footer widget area though.
