unable to see page template in page atribute

  • I was just viewing a wordpress video and foung there is a template dropdown with lot of templates in it.
    I activated a 2015 theme which is updated and found that the page template dropdown in missing.
    I dont know what happened. I am a novice and interested to learn wordpress so just kick started my self with youtube video.

    Please advice what should i do. I am also interested in learning how to convert html to wordpress and to create admin page for my theme.

    Firstly WordPress Theme Twenty Fifteen is old version so it does not have page template.
    You can check more details of this theme here.
    I will suggest you to use the latest theme Twenty Seventeen developed by WordPress.

    Hi thanks for the reply,
    I checked it out and found that i was using 2017 theme twenty seventeen. I didnt find the template in page attributes . but as you gave the link i installed the theme free from Wp
    (https://gracethemes.com/demo/business-web/templates/left-sidebar/). It had the template under page attributes. whys is this difference and i also installed to wordpress 4.9.8. Please advice.

    I will also go through the template creation process and get back to you.

    Not every theme offers custom templates. Some will have additional templates you can use, and some will not. It’s up to the theme author.

    Go to dashboard->pages click one page to edit .
    In that edit page top corner has screen option. Click the screen option choose page attribute.
    Display the page attribute.

    Every Theme has different Templates and layout.For more details of theme, you can check on Documentation of Theme so you get an idea what theme supports.
