• I’ve been working on 4.2.2 with no problems for a while. A week or so ago, there were several plugin updates. I chose “update all”. I’m not sure which ones were updated (my bad). Since then I have been unable to save edits to pages. When I hit “update” instead of saving I’m jumped out of the editor to the Home Page.
When I return to the editor The edits are gone and there is a message stating “The backup of this post in your browser is different from the version below. Restore from Backup? Doing so is an endless loop of the same errors and messages.

If it matters I’m on Mac OS 10.10.4 using Firefox 40.0 and Safari 8.0.7. The problem exists on both browsers.

In running the error console (Safari) I get the following message when the pages load:

[Log] JQMIGRATE: Logging is active (jquery-migrate.js, line 21)
[Error] TypeError: null is not an object (evaluating ‘/^[^?#]*\//.exec(location.href)[0]’)
    (anonymous function) (LAB.js, line 18)
    global code (LAB.js, line 514)
    appendChild ([native code], line 0)
    (anonymous function) (tinymce.min.js, line 3)
    run (tinymce.min.js, line 3)
    add (tinymce.min.js, line 3)
    init (tinymce.min.js, line 9)
    (anonymous function) (tinymce.min.js, line 9)
    (anonymous function) (tinymce.min.js, line 4)
    a (tinymce.min.js, line 2)
    h (tinymce.min.js, line 4)
    (anonymous function) (tinymce.min.js, line 4)
    i (tinymce.min.js, line 4)

This happens on all the pages I tested.

    What I have done:

    Turned off all plugins
    Selected the 2015 theme
    Reinstalled WordPress (one touch)
    Reinstalled WordPress (manually)

Noting has had any effect on the error. The error does not manifest on the site (savepauldingco.com). It works fine, I just can’t update it.

Not sure what else to add, but I will supply anything you ask for.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions on this.

  • I’m experiencing the same issue with one of my sites. Regardless of what you do (content-wise), you get the “The backup of this post in your browser is different from the version below” error.

    Some additional information.

When I manually installed 4.2.3 I deleted all the folders except wp-content and some .htaccess files. Then uploaded 4.2.3 (which has since been upgraded to 4.4.4. I disabled all plugins and renamed the plugins folder (as advised on one of the threads because disabling them doesn’t always really work).

The problem still remains with no plugins available. What I have found now is the issue is related to saving links. I can create and save a page without error. I can put text on the page and save without error. When I associate a link (any link) with text on the page, I am thrown into the sequence of events outlined in my original post. Please someone help with this. If I have posted in the wrong place or done something else wrong that is cause for no one offering any help on this, please let me know so I can address that.
