I have been using this plugin for several years – very happy with it. However just resently I noticed when I created a new page and wanted to create a new custom sidebar with 2 fixed widgets – 1 widget was fixed and the other not. To troubleshoot I removed the one that was not fixed (though it was supposed to be) – recreated it – but I am not able to “tick the box” to save it as a Fixed widget?

    Hey 123afm,

    thanks for reaching out.

Some blocks don’t seem to work with how we implemented the fixed widget option. We haven’t yet figured out why.

A solution is to create a new Group block and add the blocks you want to fix in there. Then make sure that the Fix Widget option is applied to the Group block.

Please let me know if that helps.

    Thanks,
    Thomas

Hi, thanks for getting back to me. I have tried that, no luck. I’ll get my dev to take a look at it.

    Hi 123afm,

    thanks for your feedback.

I created a new test site with a popular theme and had no problem to fix a standard block like “Categories”. The save button worked as expected.

If your developer figures out which plugins conflict, then I can take a second look.

    Thanks,
    Thomas

Hi, an update. My dev looked at it, but couldn’t find a solution. However, I found a halfway solution.
The problem was on 2 new pages.

Old pages that had fixed widgets (custom sidebars) had no issues.

By enabling accessibility mode on the widget page, I was able to save the fixed widget on 1 of the pages – and it seems to be working fine.

On the second page this didn’t help.

I am able to “Save”, but the 1 widget just disappears when I start to scroll – looks like it disappears “under” the #2 widget (this widget seems to be fixed).

    Hi 123afm,

    thanks for your feedback.

Can I see this behavior anywhere?

What is “accessibility mode”? I am not aware of something like this in WP core. If that is a plugin, does it make a difference to disable it temporarily?

    Thanks,
    Thomas

Hi Thomas, thanks for getting back to me, much appreciated! The “accessibility mode” is found when going to “Appearance” – “Widgets” – and then there is a link at the top right corner (just to the left of the “Help” tab). If you want I can get send you the URL, but I prefer not to show it here in a public forum.

Hi 123afm, there is no Help tab in my widget view. Does yours look like the widget editor on the first screenshot on this page?

About the URL: this forum is the only place to get help. If you enter the URL in the first post, it will be hidden from users who are not logged in. I don’t think it can be added afterwards, though. In such a case, you might open a new thread.

    Thanks,
    Thomas

Hi Thomas, my widget editor is different – might be due to using the Classic Editor and/ or the Genesis Framework (been using Genesis for 10 years on all my sites, so I am not familiar with anything else).

Anyway, here is what my Widget editor looks like: https://prnt.sc/j3KxhoR6xH2w.

    NOT working sidebar URL: https://luxuryshavingrazors.com/best-straight-razor/dovo-starter-kit/

    Hi 123afm,

thanks for your feedback and links.

Unfortunately, Fixed Widget won’t work on that last site. Technically, the markup is there, and the plugin even tries to make the elements sticky, but the theme’s markup is just incompatible.

I am sorry, but I won’t be able to help in this case.

    Thanks,
    Thomas

Hi Thomas, thanks for your reply. That is strange since it has been/ and still is working on other pages on that site for several years. The Fixed Widget plugin is in use on more than 10 pages on that site, same setup (1 custom HTML widget and 1 widget with some Amazon products) – all working fine. It is just these last 2 pages created this last month that has this issue.

    Hi 123afm,

it seems to make a difference in your theme whether the sidebar is left or right. Do you have any pages with the sidebar on the left where the widgets are fixed?

    Thanks,
    Thomas

Hi Thomas, thanks for your reply. All the pages are set to have the sidebar on the right, but those 2 display it on the left, and then after a while, it pops to the right. Anyway, my dev has found what seems to be the problem – some Cloudflare caching. Works fine when logged in, but is not “fixed” when logged out. Anyway he is working on it and I’ll post back if/ when completely solved (with the fix)
