• Hi All,

I am running WP using Xampp on a local host. I had to do a complete reinstall of Xampp after some computer problems. I was told to save a copy of the WordPress files that resided in the “htdocs” folder. That I did. And I was told to save the “Data” folder in the “xampp/mysql” folder. That I did.

Now that I am up and running, I managed to copy the backed-up to the wordpress folder in the “htdocs” folder, but when I transferred the “data” folder, I am unable to see all the pages that I had created. I assume that the “WordPress” folder in the “xampp/mysql/data” is in fact my database, since that is what ii was named. The files that reside in that folder, example: wp-options, wp-users, are all listed as Wordperfect files, and do not list any tables or data.

So, is there a way to retreive this information, or am I just going to have to put Humpty back together again?

    Thanks for any advise.

    Ted

  • Whoever gave you that information was incorrect. You need a backup copy of the site’s database – not a copy of “Data” in the “xampp/mysql” folder. Without that backup, I’m afraid your old site has been lost. ??

    Esmi,

I have to believe that the database was intact at the time when xampp went south, because the site was operational up to that point. I just looked at the tables in Phpmyadmin. The structures are there, but I don’t see any pages listed. Do you know in which file, or where they would reside? Does the name of the database have a .sql extension. If so, I can’t find any reference to any such files.

Interesting name Esmi. I had an aunt in England by that name, whom I met many years ago. Have never run across anyone with that name since.

Guess I will gear up for a rebuild.

    Thanks.

MySQL doesn’t store data in files. It’s simply not the way it was built. And, yes, a database backup would usually have an .sql file extension – although it’s also possible that such a file could be inside a .zip or .gzip archive.
