I am trying to disable Wordfence due to many reasons. However when I select to deactivate and select the option to remove all Wordfence data I am taken to a page saying to remove extended protection. I get confirmation “the auto_prepend_file has successfully been removed from .htaccess and .user.ini. Once this change takes effect, Extended Protection Mode will be disabled” It then proceeds to do the little spin icon for around 5 mins before saying that it could not be disabled. I have checked the .htaccess and .user.ini files and confirm that there is no reference to auto_prepend_file in there. I have also searched all files for auto_prepend_file in case any others made reference to it and they don’t. It mentions it might take a while for the file changes to take effect but it’s been well over half an hour since I got the successful message.

Please can someone advise why extended protection won’t seem to diable since the criteria for disabling it is being met?

    Hi @hbtclaura

Please send your Wordfence diagnostics report. Go to the top of the “Diagnostics” tab on the Wordfence “Tools” page. There will be a “SEND REPORT BY EMAIL” button to send the diagnostics report. Enter wftest [at] wordfence [dot] com as the email and hbtclaura as the forum username please.

Once you have emailed me the diagnostics report can you reply here to let me know that it has been sent. This is important in the unlikely event that your installation of WordPress is having an issue with sending mail.

    Hi @wfphil

Thanks for the reply. I have just sent that. It says it was successful so hopefully it has come through!

    Hi @wfphil

I’ve just tried again and it seems to have worked. It’s removed all the tables and the folder from the plugins folder. It did leave the file wordfence-waf.php but I deleted this manually and it doesn’t seem to have caused an error.

Guess it took longer than the expected 5 mins for the process to be recognised!

    Hi @hbtclaura

    Thank you for the update.

I see that that the firewall optimization has been removed.

I’m also facing the same issue. How to fix this issue?
