My site was hacked (wordfence was installed) After finally finding a backup that was not corrupted and restoring I found that it was before wordfence was installed. I tried to install wordfence on the restored site but i get installation failed errors (unable to create directories) I then tried uploading wordfence via cpanel. When I tried to extract the zip file there were multiple errors. See screen shot. https://prntscr.com/9sk7n2

The permissions for the plugin directory is 755.

Looking for some help to solve the problem.

  • On occasion, directory permission changes or network blips cause a problem where a file can’t be overwritten in the update process. This is not indicative of a problem. Use sftp or ftp to access your web server, remove the wordfence folder in wp-content/plugins, and reinstall wordfence from the plugins > add new page of your web site.
