• Hi,

I installed WP just recently (a newbie). I set up the mail-to address but when I email to it, it does not appear on my blog. I checked that the mail is actually received. I also checked that I can manually do a post.
What are the main things that I should look at to be able to troubleshoot this? The only parameters I know that relate to this are the ones in the “Options/Writing” tab.
    Thanks.

  • Did you set up the cron job to periodically GET wp-mail.php?

NuclearMoose’s Tutorial seems to be down, but here is a Google cache of it:

Thanks. I have set up the cron job. The problem was something else and I found the solution from another older thread in this forum. I had to edit this file: class-pop3.php.

    Hi Wilf 888,

I have been going looney tunes trying “post via email.”
What specifically did you do to make this all work? ( also what about “pop3.php” file?)

IT feels like rocket science to the nth degree in getting WordPresss to post via emial. . . . Also, it appears that this forum seems to just chat about “the problems,” but they don’t put the specific solutions in right here where it would help?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Ok…

First the standard forum stuff: please don’t post in more than one thread with the same question. If you ask in one place, you’ll get answers in one place, and it’s much easier for everyone to keep track.

Second, for anyone to help, we need a wee bit more information. What have you done so far? Have you set up the email address in Writing Options? Can you send email (just general email, not necessarily WP posts) to that address? Can you retrieve mail sent to that address using either your mail client or webmail?

If that bit works, you need to get WP to collect the mail. There are two basic ways to do that.

    1) If you can set up a cron job (a scheduled task on the server), that will do it automatically. Search for information on that.

    2) Whether you can do a cron job or not, you can use your web browser to run the command:

    https://yourdomain.com/wordpress/wp-mail.php

(using whatever folder you have WordPress installed in, of course.)

If there are any messages in the mailbox, WordPress will collect them and post them.

Posts received by email should default to ‘draft’ status rather than ‘publish.’ Easy enough to change, but this should not be a default setting. No security whatsoever! Plus, a lot of us have automatic attachments on our emails–signatures, ads, spam and antivirus ads/stats, etc.

Building some security and filtering into this feature would be nice, along with a way to match multiple originating email addresses with registered authors.
