I just added Jetpack Boost to my site and installed, but I’m unable to optimize CSS loading.

The first time it said something like “unable to generate” followed by a deep link and an invitation to contact support.

The second time it was “http 503 while communicating with server.”

I’m on my third attempt … the green bar has been stuck about 3 pixels from full for 10 minutes.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @lklawless,

Thank you for your interest with Jetpack Boost and your report. We are sorry you are experiencing this issue. Would you please let us know a bit more about your site setup such as the theme you are using and the plugins you have installed. It will allow us to try replicating your setup and investigate further.

    Best,
    David

    Thanks for responding.

I’m using Perkins theme and plugins include regular Jetpack (with Lazy Loading already turned on), Asset CleanUp, Hummingbird, Really Simple SSL, and Wordfence. I also use Cloudflare.

    Hi @lklawless!

Can you try deactivating Cloudflare firewall on your site? It may be blocking the CSS generation because your browser is making a lot of requests when CSS is being generated.

    Hi –

OK, I deactivated Cloudflare’s firewall and tried three times – got this error every time: Failed to verify page at https://www.theveggietable.com/more/ingredients/lemon-recipes/?jb-generate-critical-css=598c5ccac7

    Hi @lklawless,

We have released a new update for the plugin. Could you please update the Boost and check if that resolves your issue?

If that still not working, there may be something else installed on the site that’s causing problems. The quickest way to figure out if something is interfering is to test for a theme or plugin conflict.

I know it’s less than ideal, but could you please try the following:

Temporarily deactivate all the site’s plugins except for Boost and Jetpack (main plugin) and clear your browser’s cache. Then try again. If it works, then we’ll know that another plugin is conflicting here. You can re-enable your plugins one by one, trying in between, until you find the one causing the conflict. You can leave it disabled or reach out to the plugin developer for a fix.

If disabling plugins doesn’t help, it may be the theme. Temporarily switch your theme to a WordPress default theme like Twenty Nineteen. Then try again. If it works, then you know it’s a problem with the theme, and you can reach out to the theme developer for a fix.

Let us know what you find!
