Unable to open uplaoded *.doc and *.docx files

    Hey all,

    I’ve recently had the need to upload some *.docx files to my website (never needed to before today), but they are not working. After trying some things (described below), I tried saving one of the documents as s *.doc instead, but that still did not work.

    WP lets me upload and insert these files in to a post just fine, but when I click on the link, I get a 404 error.

    Here is an example of one of the documents.

    I’ve checked that the file has actually been uploaded via an FTP client, and it has, and I’ve checked that the link is correct, which it seems to be.

    Does anybody know why this is not working?

    Never mind, turns out someone had added a .htaccess file to the wp-content directory that only allowed certain file types to be open (to prevent attempts to access things like *.php and *.js files).

    Once I added ‘docx’ and ‘doc’ to the list of allowed types, it worked fine.
