    I got into a total mess when I started because I had no idea about what to do. WP was installed through SimpleScrpts whin JustHost. I thought I had not gort the right programme so I installed something else. it did not work, so I tried to install WP manually according to one of WP wenbpages. That did not work either so after a few installations and reinstallations I delete everything I could find in the FileManager and reinstalled manually, this time with the necessary amendments to wp-config-sample.php (which I renamed wp-config.php and index.php.

    Then, as I still could not get in I posted in the other section on ‘Installation” and one of your colleagues very kindly pointed out that I had WP in the wrong place: the root directory. I moved it to the public_html and was able to get in finaally!!

    Then, as you know things went wrong again. I am curiuos as to why you said the the template that I uploaded may have been ‘funny’, because before I contacted you I found that my computer had hung. Could that be related?

    public_html is the root directory. do you mean that you installed WP in public_html/wordpress?

    When you look at the File Manager the root directory of JustHost is called Home/etc. Then if you expand that you get various folders including the publi_html.

    originally (at my last attempt…)I had placed wordpress as one of the folders under the root directory on par with public_html, copying the amended the amended index.php in the root directory (inside Home/etc)

    Now wordpress is INSIDE public_html

    How much work have you done on this site? It might be a lot easier to ask your hosts to simply wipe everything out and start again from scratch. That way, you can re-install using Simple Scripts. Right now, there’s too much of a mess on that domain and it’s going to continue to cause problems, I think.

    There is no work at all. I have already asked them but they did not reply. I was not sure if that was possible. Is it normal, when you ask them to wipe everything for them to do it immidiately?

    Ok. I’ve asked formally to wipe the thing clean. received an automatic annswer saying that cannot deal with my query for at least 24 hours…

    thanks for everything. I will revert when I have news.

    meanwhile I have been looking at the files in File Manager. The index.php in the root dir points to the wp-blog-header.php, but looking at this one I find that it does not seem to know where to go…

    wp-blog-header.php
    PHP script text
    <?php
    /**
    * Loads the WordPress environment and template.
    *
    * @package WordPress
    */

    if ( !isset($wp_did_header) ) {

    $wp_did_header = true;

    require_once( dirname(__FILE__) . ‘/wp-load.php’ );

    wp();

    require_once( ABSPATH . WPINC . ‘/template-loader.php’ );

    }

    Could this be the problem?
