• My URL is https://blog.newhorizons123.com and I am having several issues with my site. Please let me know if asking multiple questions in one post is not OK and I will separate them out. Thank you in advance for you assistance. Here are my issues:

    1) I have tried every which way to move the nav bar under the header and nothing works. Any suggestions?

    2) I have tried editing the CSS to customize the nav menu directly in the theme, with CSS editors and even tried Persistent Styles plugin – nothing works. Surely I am missing something but can’t for the life of me figure it out. BTW I am a techno-moron.

    3) I have switched themes many times and have read what happens to the widgets. I have uninstalled all of them and re-installed them one by one yet I am still having problems with the categories and the archives widget. I will leave the archives widget on my site so you can see the problem. When I click on any month, I am taken to a page where the following code appears before the beginning of the post:

    topsyWidgetPreload({ “url”: “http%3A%2F%2Fblog.newhorizons123.com%2Fare-you-taking-advantage-of-the-free-mentoring-available-to-all-small-business-owners%2F”, “shorturl”: “https://bit.ly/dwMdMK”, “style”: “big”, “title”: “

Any idea why this is happening and what I can do to fix it?

Thsnk you again in advance for any assistance you can give me. I have been pulling my hair out and my computer is headed for the window….. ??

  • 1. Edit your theme’s header.php and literally move the nav bar markup below the header markup. You’ll probably have to carry out some CSS editing as well.

    2. Stick to working on the stylesheet within the theme or on a version you’ve downloaded to your own machine. Remember to press CTRL and F5 simultaneously when viewing an updated page/site. Or try emptying your browser cache. This should ensure that your web browser fetches a fresh copy of the page rather than serving up an out-dated copy from your own cache. Also disable/deactivate any caching plugin(s).

    3. Looks like you have a bad plugin. Try deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one – checking the archive page(s) after each re-activation – until you find the problematic plugin(s).

Thank you so much for your response. Did I mention that I am NOT technical at all?

    1) I have looked through the header-php several times and don’t see any reference to a nav bar. However there is a nav-php file – perhaps the code is in there? Below is the code for nav-php:

[Code moderated as per the Forum Rules. Please use the pastebin]

    2) Are you saying that I shouldn’t use any of the custom CSS plugins? I have re-fresh the browser each time and am sure I am not looking at a cached view.

    3) I did de-activate all of the plugins but will try again.

    1. Quite possibly.

    2. I’m saying you don’t need them and they add another layer of complexity that you could do without. Plus, they may not even be working properly with WP 3.0

    3. Try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Thank you so much for you help.

    1) I will play around with the nav-php to see if i can make that work

    2) thanks for the clarification. I certainly don’t need another layer of complextity ??

    3) will do!
