Unable To Login After 2.5 to 2.6.3 Upgrade

    I had 2.5, decided to manually upgrade to 2.6.3 (using Filezilla to manage the files), uploaded all the new 2.6.3 files (with all the proper info edited in).

    Says I have successfully installed.

    Go to the login page, enter my username (admin) and my password. And it tells me to “Please login again”.

    And I’m stuck at that. Password and User are correct, but just keeps asking me to login again over and over whenever I try and login. Any ideas?

  • Here’s some things to try:
    1. logout or logout with https://www.yourdomain.com/wp-login.php?action=logout
    2. disable all plugins–if necessary read How to deactivate all plugins when not able to access the administrative menus?
    3. clear cookies
    4. exit browser
    5. make sure local firewall is not causing problem
    6. login with https://www.yourdomain.com/wp-login.php

    If WordPress is installed in something other than the root folder please take that into account for the above url examples

    It was step 3/4 that seemed to get it working. I followed 1/2 but the problem didn’t go, but after clearing cookies it seems to have worked out. ??

    I am having a very similar problem, except that when I login to the admin panel after the upgrade, it simply takes me back to the login, without any kind of message or acknowledgement. I have tried all the solutions posted above… any other ideas? Could this be something I did erroneously in my upload?

    Thanks MichaelH for your suggestions as they helped me find my solution which was to remove the AutoFill that I had asked my Avant Browser to remember. Seems it was overiding any new password I obtained and used. Once the Autofill was deleted, I was able to get back on track and now have no trouble logging in.

    ak40seven: I have been having the same problem as you. I host seven blogs on my website, each using WordPress – but two are experiencing the exact issue you describe. So far, I have not figured out a way to fix the problem other than reverting to an older installation :(.

    Squidly… I have tried everything to get the upgrade to work, and have given up completely. I am now trying to do a clean install, and import the content into a new db, but now I am having a whole new issue, which has something to do with the German accented characters not translating right on the browser end. oh well… this is exactly why I like writing my own stuff.
