Okay, after doing some reading I was able to figure this out. The key here is to figure out what the base URL of your public-facing pages are. We didn’t have any, so we were resorting to using the URL we used to log in to Salsa.

This page about branding a subdomain kind of obliquely helped to point the way. An easy way to find your base URL if you’re a beginner like we were, just choose a page from the “Useful links” part of your Salsa dashboard. Plug it into your SalsaPress settings and you should be good to go.
