Hi Jason,
Thanks for getting back to me, really appreciated!
> So I’m very happy with this direct and free option.
That’s great to hear.
> At first it didn’t recognize the existing merchant accounts.
> Now it does but it created new accounts.
Would you be able to clarify what the UI/UX looked like for you? Did it create an account for you instead of using an existing one?
<em>It didn't display any existing accounts, trying to connect didn't work, the only option was to create a new account, which didn't respond as wel. Only after logging in, an hour after, the newly created account showed up. (I only realised later this was a new account, when I visited the merchant center, next to the multi-client account. So it did not come out of nowhere, but it left me confused at first.</em>

Just checking, have you confirmed the “google-site-verification” meta tag is not visible in site HTML?
<em>It is visible, I also use Google Site Kit, which also used the verification.</em>
One thing to check is the wp_options table for gla_site_verification and let us know what value (if you have a value there).
<em>It says: SERIALIZED DATA</em>
> Does the plugin not accept multi-domain accounts? Since there is one main account with different subdomains/merchant centers, which is not recognized.
Are you referring to a multi-client account? https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/188487?hl=en-AU
Support here is limited at the moment – we’d typically (at the moment) to direct advanced users to manage things themselves. But I’d be happy to chat offline to get your thoughts on functionality that would be useful – let me know.
Yes that is what I mean, since it was advised to use the multi-client account when you have a few small web shops and one e-mail/google account user. By mention the limited support, you mean that this plugin at the moment does not work with multi-client accounts? I think it is not a big problem to set up single clients, though, if that’s the only way.
> since it gives the alert: unable to insert site verification.
Do you have any security plugins installed or similar that would be blocking Google from visiting/verifying the meta tag. We just stumbled across another site using a service that was geoblocking.
Refering to Google Site Kit, where the verification worked and after checking all the installed plugins, unfortunately this is not the case.
Hope this information helps you to locate the problem.
Best regards
Bas
