Unable to get upcoming events using get_events_relative_to, $ai1ec_calendar_help

I have multiple sites running this plugin and all seem to crash on this (https://pastebin.com/G1tDNZYk) code after a recent update (not sure which version).
It seems that both values in “global $ai1ec_calendar_helper, $ai1ec_events_helper;” return null. Was something changed with these classes? I really need to be able to query events by start date.
