    I am trying to convert an existing wordpress installation (auckland-west.co.nz) to a multi-site setup. I have followed the instructions on “Create a Network” Step 2 by adding the following line to wp-config.php:

    /* Multisite */
    define( ‘WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE’, true );

    You will need to refresh your browser to continue.

    Step 3: Installing a Network
    The previous step enables the Network Setup item in your Tools menu. Use that menu item to go to the Create a Network of WordPress Sites screen.

    Step 3 just does not happen: I only have Import and Export under Tools.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks. Paul

    Resolved.

    When installing WP some 6 years ago, I had wp-config outside the wordpress directory. I remembered that and edited this file. After a lot of frustration I finally found that there was also a wp-confi.php file inside wordpress – no idea where that originated and when…

    Once I made the WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE edit in this file, all went well.
