Our blog will not forward email to [email protected] because the blog is disabled after an editing error.
How can we get the password reset when the email is tied to a non-functioning site?
All we need is a password reset and we can correct the blog editing error.

The key phrase: not able to get to site. The admin page is broken and it won’t recognize my user name

Update: I am able to send to the email address [email protected]. I am NOT able to use the username of “Beyondbabe”; therefore it won’t send me a reset — it says the username does not exist.

I tried loading the database tool but couldn’t get past “setup/” command.
Hard to believe months of a blog can go down in flames because we can’t get our username back.
IS THERE ANYONE I CAN ACTUALLY SPEAK WITH?
    Thank you all for trying.

No. This is a volunteer-run forum. And please don’t SHOUT.

Your host has to install PhpMyadmin. Try asking them for assistance.

I’ve very sorry. I did not mean to shout. It has been a frustrating day and I feel that www.remarpro.com is not responsive.
I really meant to have the WordPress folks help me.
My apologies to everyone who took offense of my trouble trying to recoup my username.

WordPress is free, open source, software, so there is no official support team that you can speak to. These forums are the support.

I do understand your frustration but as you are self-hosting your site, there is only so much we can offer in the way of help. Most hosts offer access to a database management application. PhpMyadmin is the most common, so the chances are that your host offers access to it already via your account management panel.

Drop them a line and see if they can point you in the right direction.

Thank you for sharing the nature WordPress. The hard part is that I don’t get why it every failed. The username worked this morning and won’t work now.
I am not a coder, I’m a writer. If there is no resource for username recovery, I will have to quit WordPress and move to a commercial platform.
Thanks for all of your patience.

What did you change/do immediately before the site stopped working?

    (@hankturner)

Hi, Esmi – this morning, I was on the site with no problems. Then, I added GoogleAnalytics tracking code onto the Page Template (stupid, I know), and uploaded. Then, the site got the error code below:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<‘ in /home/content/07/6542707/html/wp-content/themes/arras/functions.php on line 71

So, I went to login to my WP admin, but when I put in my u/name it said: “The specified user does not exist.”

I have tried every possible configuration, but I can’t get WP to see my u/name. Thank you so much for your help.

The error message suggests that you edited functions.php. Try re-uploading a fresh copy of the Arras theme using FTP (or whatever file management application your host provides).

Hi, Esmi – great idea, if I could get into the admin section — but it won’t even see my u/name.

The key is — WP has to check for my u/name and let me back in. Thank you so much.

You do not need to login if you are using FTP or a file management application within your hosting account’s management panel. See Adding_New_Themes_using_cPanel for an example.

And please stop posting this same problem in new topics. Your duplicated topics will be deleted.
