• I upgraded the Akismet plugin which said it installed successfully but now it’s asking for my API key.

“Akismet is almost ready. You must enter your WordPress.com API key for it to work.”

I clicked on the link to the API key entry page and there’s a link which says “(Get your key.)” It takes me to a WordPress login page where I enter my username/password but it says I’m using an invalid username. I’ve tried password reset but it says my email isn’t in their system.

I also tried looking at the Profile page of my admin site and there’s no API key at the top.

    Would someone please advise?

  • Have you tried opening an account at wordpress.com? You don’t need to sign up for a free blog – just an account – to get your API key.

No I haven’t tried that, but what’s the purpose? Shouldn’t the API key be associated with my wordpress site as opposed to an individual account? Thanks.

“Note: If you are privately hosting an installation of WordPress, you still must register a WordPress.com account in order to obtain an API key.”

Ok, thanks. Still don’t understand how it works but it’s working so I won’t mess with it. ??
