Unable to edit the number of posts shown in blog home

  • I cannot edit the number of blog posts shown on the home page. It’s stuck at 19 and it won’t change, regardless what I do in admin>settings>reading.

    I’m using the latest version of WordPress. I’ve deactivated every single plugin. I’ve activated different themes. Nothing doing.

    I don’t have a clue why it won’t work. Any suggestions?

  • Have you tried:
    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

    Can you create new posts?

    Okay, I did every single one of these and it didn’t do anything. Yes, I can create new posts.

    Here’s what’s weird. If I click on an archive link for a specific month, it only shows one post per page – so that aspect works.

    But it doesn’t work on the home page. It’s still showing 19 posts. How weird is that?

    Even when using the Twenty Ten theme?

    Have you edited Twenty Ten at all? Can you re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress?

    Yeah I’ve already re-uploaded the files from a fresh download…wasn’t that what you said earlier?

    No, I haven’t edited Twenty Ten any. It’s the strangest thing.

    I only suggested re-uploading wp-admin & wp-includes. Not the root files.

    If this isn’t a file/theme/plugin issue, then it could be a database problem. Have you tried repairing the database? Do you have a recent database backup?

    How would I repair the database?

    Using Phpmyadmin or another database management tool. Your hosts might be able to help with this.
