Unable to edit index pg

  • Need a little guidance on this one…

    I recently acquired a client with some wordpress sites, however,
    when I attempt to edit the index page on one of these, I get nothing/no changes.

    I also have a home.php page (which is exactly the same as index.php), which I can edit and control, but when I make it visible, I get another home link in the navigation.

    and by the way, I’ve taken this over from a previous developer…
    also, they have used posts as pages…so…
