    sorted thanks

How did you fix this? I’m receiving the same error message. I changed permalink structure and that didn’t help.

    under settings and then media.
in there under ‘uploading files’ there were two boxes to add addresses to direct file uploadeds.
the first one is selected with an address in it
starting (in my case) with /home/linweb28/ …. etc etc and then ending with the usual htdocs/wp-content/uploads
i deleted everything except wp-content/uploads in this box
    and that did it.

now thats done those two address boxes have disappeared (the second one was empty and there to allow adding a custom address).
I’m told there is a risk this can happen when WP updates.

My media looks different than what you describe above. I do not have anything that says “uploading files”. I am having the same issue when I try to install a new theme. This is a new build because I killed my last site trying to change the Maximum upload size from 2MB. Still don’t know how to adjust that, but…

My media settings page looks like:

    Media Settings
    Image sizes
The sizes listed below determine the maximum dimensions in pixels to use when adding an image to the Media Library.

    Thumbnail size Width 150

    Height 150
Crop thumbnail to exact dimensions (normally thumbnails are proportional)

    Medium size Max Width 300

    Max Height 300

    Large size Max Width 1024

    Max Height 1024

    Uploading Files
Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders

sorry that its not the same in your settings. Typical that …

Your best bet might be to contact your host for help & advise then i’d think.
That is actually what i did and who sorted the problem for me.

Yeah i host t his myself on my own server, so I don’t have anyone to ask for help which is why I am here. I get error: Installation failed: Unable to locate WordPress content directory (wp-content) which I thought was close to what you were describing.

Thanks for the reply. Think I’ll create yet another site to see if I can get past all this. I am hosting the site on a Ubuntu 18.04 server and just need a good step by step guide to make sure I get it all setup correctly. Either that or a better solution than WordPress.

    Cheers,
    Jason

@jpro6363 What kind of files are you trying to upload? Is it your website theme or Backup files of your previous website?

@jpro6363 For me the error is ” unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2018/08 ” . Even I cannot see my media library image files, its seeing like empty boxes.

Medium size Medium sizeMax Width 300
    Max Height 300
Large size Large sizeMax Width 1024
    Max Height 1024
    Uploading Files
Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders

Just go to cd /var/lib/wordpress/ and then give access to the folder: sudo chmod 777 wp-content/

@lherreradz thank you. Worked for me on offline server too. You solved my 2days investigation

    @lherreradz
I get when error entering this command

    root@brand:/var/lib# cd /var/lib/wordpress/
-bash: cd: /var/lib/wordpress/: No such file or directory

@mkmuneer242 It works if you have manually installed wordpress in a server, it seems that you have a regular hosting service, then you can follow this instructions: https://www.hostinger.com/tutorials/fix-the-is-its-parent-directory-writable-by-the-server-wordpress-error

@mkmuneer242 Your wordpress folder may not be in the same place (mine wasn’t). So in bash you’d have to navigate into your wordpress folder from wherever you start. You can always type ls or dir, depending on whether you’re on mac or pc, to orient yourself.

@lherreradz I tried the exact command sudo chmod 777 wp-content/ and it didn’t make a difference, I’m still getting the same error. I’m not sure what the 777 does – is there a chance I need to use a different number or modify the command based on something unique to my xampp/folder setup?
