I have the latest WordPress running on Windows Server 2012. I regularly see various plugins fail to update and deactivate themselves because they are unable to remove or create folders in the wp-content\plugins folder.

The posts I’ve been able to find about the problem so far refer to Unix based systems or issues with specific plugins. Since I see it with various plugins I suspect the issue is to do with security configuration on the plugins folder but I don’t want to start fiddling about with it until I have some clue how to proceed.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks.

Your folder settings need to be set to 755 and your files need to be set to 644 in order for them to function correctly. Contact your hosting company and ask them to set it correctly for you. Also make sure that you have enough space on your hosting account. If those are set correctly it could be that your WordPress user does not have the correct permission to write to those files.

Unix permission settings won’t help. Also, there is no hosting company, it’s my server.
