Since the recent upgrade, I have been unable to right-click and copy the contents of an existing cell and paste into a new empty cell.

The copying is no issue, but pasting does not work. I have tried right-click paste and Control-V to no avail.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

That sounds strange. What browser are you using? And is this happening (i.e. not working) when you create a test site and test table via https://tablepress.org/demo/#try ?

    Hi

I have tried it in Firefox, Safari and Edge all with the sam result. A friend of mine who access to the site also tried with no success. I don’t know what browser he used.

    Hi again

I tried to create a test table but when I click on the link in your post, I get a message saying that it has failed and to disconnect my VPN. I am not sitting behind a VPN, so don’t know what to do next.

    Hi,

thanks for trying with different browsers. Are you seeing any JavaScript errors in the browser’s error log console?

Thanks for testing with the demo site. It looks like the service then doesn’t properly recognize your IP address :-/

Does copy/pasting work with other programs, i.e. if you copy table content from a table to a different program (like Excel or even Notepad or a similar text editor), or the other way around from a program to the table in TablePress?

    Tobias

    Hi

    Thanks for coming back.

Yes, there is no problem in copying and pasting in Excel, Word etc.

I run two separate websites that use the Tablepress plugin. Until the upgrade, it was no problem copying and pasting. Now both of them no long allow me to do that in any browser

So I do think this is an upgrade issue because it is too much of a coincidence otherwise.

Thanks for your help so far.

    Best wishes.

    Hi John,

yes, but I mean copy/pasting between TablePress and Word/Excel (in both directions). Is that working?

    Hi Tobias

I can’t copy from Excel to Tablepress, but I can copy from Tablepress to Excel.

    Best wishes.

    Hi,

ok, so it’s the “paste” part that is causing the issue. However, I can’t reproduce this on any of my test sites and I haven’t received any similar reports yet… So, to be honest, I’m not sure how to proceed here. To maybe test if it’s browser/computer dependent, can you maybe try on a different WordPress website somehow?

    Hi Tobias

I have it running on two sites and numerous people have reported the same issue accessing the sites from their own machines and browsers.

I think what I will do is to create a new demo site and install the plugin there. If the copy and paste works, then it’s some sort of issue with the tables on my existing sites.

If it doesn’t work, then what I can do is to give you direct access into the new site, so that you can see the issue firsthand.

    A plan?

    Best wishes.

    Hi John,

yes, please try on a test or demo site. You could also try https://tablepress.org/demo/#try again. Sometimes that works once you have a different IP address.

For more on this, please also get in touch via email (the address is in the lower part of https://tablepress.org/pricing/ ).

    Morning Tobias

I created a new table on a new site.

Copying works, but the ‘Paste’ option on a right-click is greyed out.

However, I found a workaround by instead choosing the ‘Advanced Editor’ option which allowed me to paste in text that I had copied from another cell. Then I saved and it was fine.

Not ideal, but it works !

    Best wishes.

    Hi,

thanks for testing that. If the “Paste” option in the context menu is grayed out, this means that the browser does not allow that action to be performed (because JavaScript code could otherwise “secretly” steal content from the clipboard). However, from everything I know, Firefox is the only browser that does this…

Good to hear that you found that workaround though ??

    Regards,
    Tobias
