• Hello, I am unable to connect Jetpack to my wordpress site. I try to do it and get this message: Your website needs to be publicly accessible to use Jetpack: site_inaccessible

I have checked with my host and there is nothing blocking access to the xmlrpc.php file. I have checked with my Firewall provider and they are no blocking it either.

When I try to go to that file I get 403 Permission Denied.

How can I enable access and get re-connected? Here is a list of my plugins below. With Akismet, All In One WP Security, and Anti-Spam by CleanTalk deactivated, I still can’t connect Jetpack. Please Help!!!

  • I am having the exact same issue as countrymedia.

Your website needs to be publicly accessible to use Jetpack: site_inaccessible
Error Details: The Jetpack server was unable to communicate with your site [HTTP 403].

I too talked to my hosting company and they allow connection to WordPress.com
I disabled my plugins and tried connection Jetpack, still wouldn’t connect.
I haven’t tried disabling my theme yet.
I also get the same 403 error loading the XMLRPC file.

    Here is my plugin list.
    1. Akismet
    2. All In One SEO Pack
    3. And The Winner Is…
    4. BackupBuddy
    5. Clean Archives Reloaded

Same issue after updating it’s not activating. I have tried to give access to xmlrpc.php full access but still it’s not activating.

    1) xmlrpc.php full access given and it’s accessible in browser
    2) plugin installed again
    3) Disable all plugins and reactivated

    Nothing is working.

    Hey sam53 & countrymedia,
I submitted a ticket to my hosting company asking them if their security blocks XMLRPC?
They answered me back and said:
There was a rule in your WordPress site installation location to block the access towards the file ” xmlrpc.php”.
This is required for the working of jetpack plugin. Now I’ve removed that rule for you.

Then I was able to connect.
Hope this helps you two out as well.

I allowed the access to the XMLRPC.php file in htaccess but still it’s not connecting!!!

Does my host need to allow this file? Or i can do this in cpanel provided by hosting company.

    Definitely call them.
He told me there was a rule created in my WordPress installation location that blocked the access towards the file ” xmlrpc.php”.
This is required for the working of jetpack plugin. So he removed it.

How do I change that rule myself in my server? And where?

Because I’m having the exact same problem. Cannot connect jetpack anymore.

@countrymedia: This is the problem. If your xmlrpc.php file returns 403, then Jetpack will not be able to connect to your site. I’d recommend getting in touch with your host once again, as they should be able to help you get to the bottom of this.

@sjanellc: Glad to hear that you were able to get the issue resolved!

@sam53 and @katnissmellark: Could you please start your own thread, as per the Forum Welcome?
