Trying to connect Google Analytics to my Site Kit Plugin.
In doing so, I receive the following message – “An existing analytics tag was found on your site with the ID UA-96246***-*. If later on you decide to replace this tag, Site Kit can place the new tag for you. Make sure you remove the old tag first.”
The ‘View’ tab allows me to toggle options ‘All website data’ OR ‘set up a new view’ – but regardless of the option I choose, the ‘Configure Analytics’ tab does activate.

The analytics tag mentioned above was previously linked to another GA account but I have recently transferred it to a different GA account (but tracking numbers remain the same) so I was expecting it to link without vault.

Can someone advise what might be causing a halt to the GA setup process.

    TIA

Thanks for getting in touch. Just to confirm, nothing happens when you click on the “Configure Analytics” button, and you’re therefore unable to proceed? If so you could try attempt setup from a browser incognito window.

Alternatively if you can locate the source of the existing snippet you can then remove this snippet in order to use Site Kit to then select your preferred snippet. This sounds the most suitable options based on your preference to use another snippet. The existing snippet may have been placed via the following methods:

    • Your theme configuration options
    • Your theme files, in particular header.php and footer.php
    • Other third party plugins with Analytics integration
    • Google Tag Manager

If you’d like to share your Site Health information privately using this form we may be able to help determine the source of the additional snippet.

    Hi James,

Thank you so much for your reply.

Just by saying “theme configuration options” allowed me to find the location of the snippet.
I have since deleted the snippet from the theme options, and I have now been able to ‘configure analytics’ with Site Kit.

Thank you again – very much appreciated ??
