Hi I went to help this client do an update of woo-commerce from 7.4.1 to current and received various variations of this error message ..

Update failed: Could not copy file. woocommerce/includes/gateways/paypal/assets/js/paypal-admin.js

During the course of the variations I logged into the Control Panel and changed permissions on the various failed error messages.

I have changed them to 755 on the whole gateways folder and all its subfolders but still getting the above message. All other themes and plugins are uptodate.

    Any suggestions?

Could I for instance download the plugin and then upload it.

Would I overwrite any important info?

    Thanks

  • Hi @wotnow ,

    Thanks for reaching out!

I?understand that you are seeing the above error message when trying to update WooCommerce to its latest version, is this correct?

It could still be an issue with your?Filesystem Permissions. Kindly navigate to?WP dashboard → Tools → Site Health → Info → Filesystem Permissions?and confirm all directories are writable?

If not, you can ask your host for help with this. Also, please ensure you are logged in as the site Administrator when trying to update plugins on your site.

If the filesystem permissions are all?Writable, and you are logged in as the site Administrator, please can you try deleting WooCommerce and then downloading the latest version?here. Once you have the download, you can try installing WooCommerce and see if any errors occur during that.

Could I for instance download the plugin and then upload it.

Would I overwrite any important info?

Yes, you can absolutely do this. Deleting the WooCommerce plugin will not affect your WooCommerce data in any way, all orders, customer etc will still be there once WooCommerce has been reinstalled.

Let us know how this goes!
