• Hi, I have used a number of page templates to build a fully WP managed site. I’ve been able to easily switch between them using the template dropdown list in the Attributes section of the page editor interface. But now changing the value in this dropdown has no effect – clicking the ‘Update’ button republishes the page and I get the ‘Page updated’ message but the value in the dropdown always reverts to what it was previously.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any way to fix it?

I’m using a custom theme and have tried reverting to the default theme and changing back but this did not help.

Not sure if this is anything to do with the WP version. I was using 2.9.1 and the problem has remained since upgrading to 2.9.2.

Any suggestions would be very gratefully received.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress?

Thanks very much for the suggestions esmi.

I’ve now tried all of these in order and unfortunately the problem has remained. After further testing on the site, I’ve also now discovered that only certain pages have this problem, whilst others work perfectly well. For the pages which are affected it is also not possible to add custom field values. It’s as if they have become locked although the content be edited as usual. It’s just the extras around the page which can’t be changed. Very frustrating.

I’m also having problems selecting custom page templates in 2.9.2. They also removed the drop-down selection in the page edit attributes sidebar and it only seems to show up under quick-edit. The custom templates no longer show up as options – only the default. Driving me nuts. They work fine on my local copy of the site with 2.9.1.
