For some reason, I am unable to change the colour of the text on my website. It is missing from the drop-down box in editor. While some coloured text remains unaffected, others are now highlighted.

Currently running on version 7.4 and WordPress version 5.9. I am unaware of any recent changes/updates

    Thanks,

Update:- on another website we own also running on wordpress version 5.9. the abilty to change text colour from the drop down menu is also missing, so am assuming the functionality has been renamed “highlight”. This is OK and works on the other website, but using this theme, everything that is highlighted comes up in BOLD which I am unable to change

    Hi,

If you add color to certain text via the text editor, this is being added via inline CSS and has nothing to do with my theme. Just did a test with WP 5.9 and still works as expected. The color button is still present and still works.

Are you using the classic editor for post/pages? Or are you using a plugin to extend the TinyMCE editor perhaps?

    Hi Guido,

I only have 3 plugins and none to do with editing. I am using the standard editor as provided by wordpress for both pages and posts.

If its not a problem with the template, any suggestions where to go next?

My wife has just informed me that she downloaded the latest version of Myknowledgebase and found the same problem, no text colour button in the dropdowm menu and when the text was highlighted it was in BOLD which could not be removed. Something strange here

    Hi,

Ok, you’re using the native block editor. Not the old classic editor.

Did you activate another theme as well, to determine whether it’s theme related or not?

Because my theme does not hook into the block editor whatsoever.

    Hi

Just tried 3 random themes, WordPress twenty-twenty, wordpress twenty twenty-two + mywiki on a test site with wordpress 5.9 and no plugins. None showed “A text colour” in the drop down menu but all showed “highlight”. When highlighting the text and changing the colour, colour change ok and NONE were showing bold.

Did the same test with myknowledgebase, again no “text colour” button in the drop down menu only “highlight” which changed the text colour ok but changed the text to BOLD

    Hi,

I will try myself, can you tell me which block you’re using? Because with the paragrapgh block everything looks fine. Also no “highlight”. So guess you’re using another block.

    Hi Guido
I am using both the parargraph and table block on the website and tested the paragraph block in the random themes which showed the problem.

Hope this helps and thanks for looking into the problem

    Hi,

The color of text in the paragraph block can be changed via the block settings (mostly located on the right in the editor).

Regarding the bold text I agree. When highlighting text it will be wrapped in mark tags and the stylesheet of my theme makes that bold.

You can change this to normal by adding this at page Extra CSS of the Customizer:

    mark {font-weight:normal;}

    Yes yes yes!!!!

Thank you so much. It is very much appreciated.

I love this template, it was made for our application and I would have been very sad if I had to change.

    Thank you once again

    Hi,

    You’re welcome!

FYI: my themes only have basic support for the block editor, so this means not all blocks might be properly styled. But most native blocks do look fine, because WP itself also adds some styling to them.

But it appears you can only have one colour of font per paragraph from my tentative exploration.

    Hi there,

Just tried it on mine and its fine using highlight from the dropdown menu. It only highlights the text I select and can have multiple colours of choice
