I’m trying to change the header image to a different one (940px x 198px) using the header screen. This is the error I get every time I try this:

The uploaded file could not be moved to /home/superfam/public_html/wp-content/uploads/2011/11

I deactivated all plugins – didn’t help. I am Admin on this site. I tried using the Save Changes button to make sure there wasn’t anything “clogging” the process.

    Thanks for any help!

Do you have the correct permissions on your uploads folder?

    Hi Josh –

Yes, default apparently at 777. I cheated for now, just uploaded the header image I need, and renamed inkwell to something else, then renamed the header I want to inkwell. Works fine, if a bit dodgy, though I would definitely like to know how to fix it “right”.

It would be nice to be able to use a file from Media for this….

    Haha, nice solution ??

Did you recently change servers or anything? Was it working at some point before?

It was working on my test site on my same host provider (just a domain name/space I use to test things….) I installed a fresh WP setup on the live site, and started adding the plugins, changing header and so on, and while everything else is fine and dandy, the header wants to be obstinate. Very odd…. I will go back later to see if the test site header is also having issues. If so, then that’s going to be even more odd….

To update: It appears this is an issue of some sort with running a test site with the same content as the live site, on the same host provider. I find this very odd…. I’ve done exactly this same thing for years – though this is my first experience with 2010 theme, since I’ve always done my own themes in the past….

I dunno. I’ll take down the test site and see what happens….

Final update: taking down the test site did not help. I am still not able to have the site handle an upload of a new header (and yes, the new header is 940 px x 198 px).

Now, on another new site, using twentyeleven, I get the classic “unable to create – is parent directory writable?” error. And even making the entire install folder 777 to test does not help with that. (And yes, I did change it back to 755….) So it appears that I’m going to have to do this sort of thing “the old-fashioned way” for whatever reason.

I’m quintupling posts here…. but this is still being very very odd: tonight I set up WP in a sub-directory on the site with the “can’t upload header” issue….

And…. I can upload a header in the sub-directory just fine.

    *stumped*
