Hello, I have not been able to complete several updates. The message says that it can not create directories. I have not posted a new blog since September and would like to add new ones now. However, when trying to bring over images to the media library, I get this message: Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2014/11. Is its parent directory writable by the server? Would you be able to explain to me what is the cause and solution to my two problems. Are they related? Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

  • Hi @joan fox!

To upload files, WordPress needs to have permission to write into the folder that it’s putting things (or creating sub-directories in). It sounds like your wp-content folder’s permissions are not set such that it can do this. You can set this via FTP or in your cPanel’s file manager.

    Hi Cyndy,
Thank you for such a quick response. I am indeed impressed. I did what you suggested prior to posting…well, not using C panel. It has not helped at all. I have never had this problem before. After reading many of the other posts, it seems the version 4 is giving others some assorted problems. And I am certain that my limited computer knowledge is not a help at all. ?? Thank you so much for replying to me. My other concern is not being able to get the upgrades. I receive the same message: Unable to create directory.
