Unable to assign as page author an account with author role

  • So Im only able to as an admin to switch authorship of a page with classic editor for users with editor or admin role, but I would much rather prefer to be able to set as author to author role accounts. If this is to be expected is there any filter or recommended way to edit this?

    Authors by default do not have “edit_pages” capability, only “edit_posts”. For authors to be assigned as page authors, they’ll need that capability assigned to their role. Capabilities can be added (or removed) with a bit of custom code, or you can use a roles and capability plugin to do so. While adding page capabilities, consider some other ones such as editing published or private pages.

    If you think it’d be inappropriate for all authors to have edit_pages capability, you could create a custom role such as “pro-author” which has added capabilities and leave normal authors as they are.
