• We are redesigning a site that original used Custom Fields and had an issue section integrated into both the back end and the theme.
Now we have switched to a new theme and are trying to get rid of all that. However trying to keep the URL the same is a problem. I cannot seem to get the NEW link to work

it went /issue/nameofissue before for instance. To get it to work the same I have to remove the original “issue” permalink so I can change the new one to match. Only I can’t find it at all. It’s nowhere to be found. Does anyone have any idea where to look? I did try turning that plugin off but it didn’t solve the issue.

Well that’s weird. In following your link, I get redirected to a post about climate change. But when following what looks like the same URL from the menu, it takes me to the right page. It appears all the “issues” pages are children of the top level /issue/ page. Is that correct? What sort of link is it that you want for these?

Make sure there are no redirect or rewrite rules in .htaccess that could be the cause of strange redirects. The rewrite stuff in the WordPress block should be fine.

Go to the permalinks settings screen and verify that the post name option is selected. I didn’t see any tags or categories on the site, so the optional bases should be empty. Visiting this screen should reset all the internal rewrite rules.

If none of that helps, switch to a default twenty* theme and deactivate all plugins. Revisit the permalink settings screen. Links should behave normally now. To narrow down the earlier cause of link issues, restore your theme and plugins one at a time until the problem returns. Always revisit permailinks settings after every change when troubleshooting URL issues.

I found another random weird plugin that deactivating seems to have made a difference. Still there was one on the home page that was throwing a 404 even though the new URL should’ve matched. I’m waiting to see if it’s a caching issue somehow.
If you look at the home page it has a big block that says “healthy soils”.
You have the same healthy soils under issues. Same url. Same link. Yet the one in the menu is working and the one on the Home page is not.

Hehe, we need to get our eyes checked ?? The correct path is
    issue/healthysoils/
The link in your OP includes a hyphen that does not belong
    issue/healthy-soils/
The link in the home page block is misspelled (no ‘l’)
    issue/heathysoils/
