I’ve been using the licensed Pretty Links without problem for several years. I have recently installed version 3.0.3.

When I try to create a new link I fill out all the relevant details as before but when I click the Update button (or Publish) an error page opens up with the message ‘Sorry, you are not allowed to edit this post.’

Any idea why I don’t have permission?

Can you try saving the pretty links options once and see if that resolves it?

Hi, thanks for your prompt reply. I’ve found that this is a problem with my site settings rather than with Pretty Link. I’ve installed Pretty Link on another site and it works without problem.

Now I just have to figure out why it’s not working on my main site when it has done for years…

    Thanks again.

Yeah same thing. Pretty Links has been working for almost 5 years. Latest 3.03 update is giving me the same errors! @donmcleman did you figure anything out?

    Hi, @harryduran, I haven’t found a fix but I have a little more information.

I’ve found that on both my sites I get the same error when I click on Page 2 (or earlier) of Clicks: ‘Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page.’ This means I can’t find out what people have been clicking on. I don’t understand why it’s only one site where I can’t create new links. There might be a logical way here of understanding what’s causing the problem.

I’ve googled the error and it is apparently a common permissions error on WordPress with lots of suggestions in how to solve it. I haven’t had the time to work through all the suggestions.

    So basically, I haven’t got anywhere yet…

3.0.3 fixes the pagination issue @donmcleman so be sure you’re up to date on the latest version.

Hi, cartpauj. I’ve double-checked, both sites running 3.0.3.

One of the sites is still under construction so I should be able to work out what is different about the one that won’t let me create new links. They are both running a plugin called WP Security – my next step should be to make sure the settings are identical. But I’m short of time at the moment, I’m firefighting elsewhere ??

Try saving the Pretty Links -> Options page and see if that helps any.

Hi, that hasn’t made a difference on either site.

Site 1, the original site – when I save Options it gives me an error message ‘ERROR: PrettyBar Background Color must be an actual RGB Value’. Though I haven’t changed this value, and I don’t actually use the PrettyBar. The option box contains the same black colour as on Site 2.

    Any ideas?

@donmcleman try setting a different color for the Pretty Bar background temporarily and see if it will save. If that doesn’t work reach out to me (Paul) at https://prettylinks.com/contact/ and reference this thread, thanks!

Hi, Paul, thanks that worked for the Pretty Bar error message, it’s now gone.
