Unable to add gallery to post

I’ve been having the same issue been trying my best to find out how to fix it hopefully someone responds with one. I know it’s not a Plug In issue I’ve disabled them all and still hasn’t worked..

Have you tried NextCellent Gallery? I’m hesitant to move to it in case I lose all my current NG galleries. However, from the FAQs it sounds like all I need to do is deactivate NG. Will let you know how it goes….

Okay, so that doesn’t work out well at all. I deactivated NG and installed/activated NextCellent. My galleries were okay but no longer displayed on posts where they had been inserted. I was unable to upload images to existing galleries (got an error) and no longer had the option of inserting a gallery into a post.

Back to Nextgen… Please tell me you’ve found a solution!

@kifiko – Although not confirmed, there has been one or two reported instances of that plugin compounding issues when switched back and forth.

Have you checked if there is a conflict with another active plugin?

I’ve inactivated the NextCellent plugin. Assuming I delete it altogether, is there a way to delete/reinstall NextGen Gallery without losing my existing galleries?

@kifiko – Provided nothing has changed anything in the NextGEN Gallery tables or other entries in the database you should be able to reactivate NextGEN Gallery without issue.

If you deleted the plugin you may need to manually install via FTP if you are not able to re-install from the Plugin menu.

I only wish it were true! My original problem (as seen in initial post in this thread) remains. I am unable to add a gallery to a post.

Is there a recommended way to do this or do i just systematically inactivate the other plugins one by one and test if my problem goes away?

@kifiko – It can be very systematic … basically deactivate *all* of your plugins. Switch over to a default WordPress Twenty series theme (this is just to take the site to a baseline). Clear all caches. If you were using a caching plugin clear that cache before deactivating it. Clear your browser cache … or use its “anonymous” functionality (it’s more certain if you clear the actual browser cache but that can be a real inconvenience).

Then, reactivate NextGEN Gallery. Test to see if the functionality is as expected. If so, then it is most likely going to be your theme or one of the plugins that was active. I would probably start with the theme so the site gets back to a closer resemblance of what it looked like prior to testing faster. Check again …

Then continue re-activating and testing after each plugin to see if / when the issue re-occurs.

Eeeek! This is a live site. People will freak out if it morphs into something unrecognizable (ie. Twenty theme, no plugins). Is there any alternative at all?

@kifiko – Unfortunately there is not much in the way of alternatives for this type of troubleshooting … the only other recommendations I have would be to try to do it during “off” hours for your site; or, install a very simply maintenance plugin (one with very few bells and whistles) to activate while you test.

This site is aimed at volunteers and those critters keep crazy hours! i.e. the only for-sure downtime is when I’m grabbing my beauty sleep.

I am getting really nervous about installing plugins! They seem to have such a hard time getting along with each other.
Would you recommend any particular maintenance plugin?

I am a relative newbie to WP and am feeling seriously overwhelmed at the moment!
