• I have been using Wordfence for security on my website, I recently changed to Shield security but did not like it, and moved back to Wordfence.

However, ever since I deactivated shield security, I have been unable to access the back end of my website. I seem to get stuck in a redirect loop and eventually get the message

    The page isn’t redirecting properly

An error occurred during a connection to website.co.uk.

This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.
If I login on the front end – client portal, it works fine, logs me in to the site, but again, I cannot access up-admin, I get stuck in the same redirect loop.

I was wondering if anyone knows what I should check to try and sort this issue?

Also… When I login using the front end client portal, if i click an option from the admin bar at the top, I get taken to the 404 error page

Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

@macmanx thank you for your reply.

I have tried doing the above. I have even set my website back to yesterdays settings. the website worked fine earlier today and assumed that if I regressed to yestersay that it should be fine but it done nothing

What’s the content of your .htaccess file?
