• I’ve been asked by a friend to help fix their site. When the url is typed in this is all that appears
Fatal error: Call to a member function add_rewrite_tag() on a non-object in /home/freshsuc/public_html/deborahkingsland.com/wp-includes/taxonomy.php on line 289
I have checked a couple of previous rescue methods (changing name of plugin folder and creating new folder) this didn’t work.
I cannot access the dashboard to upgrade any plugins (there was talk on one post about the lifestream plugin)
Has anyone else encountered this problems and solved it via cpanel? All help and advice much appreciated.
    John

  • Download a fresh copy of WordPress (same release as the installed) and upload all content except the wp-content folder to your WorPress root directory .

    Thanks for the help.
What should I do if I need to keep all the content?

Content are stored in the database . Uploading the core-files will not touch your content .

Ok – I’m a newbie and not really sure how to do what you are recommending. I usually just use Softaculous or Fantastico to install WP and then install a theme and play around in the dashboard.

How do I download a fresh copy of just that version of WP and what exactly is the root directory? All my websites are in pubic_html in my cpanel. Is this my root directory? Then do I simply copy all the files from my desktop back to the new WP installation apart from the anything to wp-content?

Do I name the new installation the same as the old one? (or do I have to name it?)

Sorry if I’m a bit slow but I’m a little lost in this technology at times.
