  • Login your WordPress account via FTP and rename :
    1) your plugin folder to plugin-old
    2)your theme folder to themename-old
This will reset your WordPress to it’s default state .
If you still get the “the specified user does not exist” error follow these instructions , Through phpMyAdmin , is the simplest method to follow .
If you need more help let us know .

Can you explain FTP. I cannot login to admin and my website is not visible, only a gray page. What happened: I did the automatic upgrades in my dashboard to the plugins and after sociable, it went to the gray page and said done in the left corner. Next step was to upgrade to 3.1.1 because I was just about to back up to Online backup for wordpress. BUT I already did the complete backup on Godaddy last week, so I am pretty sure all is backed up fine. Need help, just getting into this deeper level of WP. Thanks

Imagine Windows-explorer (on a PC ) , witch helps you to navigate/explore/edit the directory structure of your computer’s hard-disc . FTP is a graphical utility that connects to your server (remotely) for administrating your website . FTP is my preferred method for website administration , alternatively you can do the same tasks through your webhost administration panel (probably Cpanel) .

the specified user does not exist

Is your site hosted on wordpress.com?
If so, support there is at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/support and I know you have all ready been there. If you post a url I wouldn’t ask because I would know. I have not seen that error before in self-hosted wordpress installations.

Thanks for both answers. This site is hosted with Godaddy as I mentioned, but it was not built in Godaddy – not sure what that means. My other site: https://www.rixxlotion.com is hosted and build inside Godaddy so they walked me through a simple upgrade to WP 3.3.1 They told me I had to do the upgrade to WP 3.3.1 manually. The site url is https://www.EoutofEgo.com but it only has a white page now. Is there another way to go to the dashboard? We have had the site since 2009 and really never understood about upgrades and had no one advising us. So it was a pretty old version and the sociable upgrade apparently was not compatible and it went blank. Really appreciate this assistance.

Sorry mate. Don’t want to cause trouble but it is considered bad form to strap-hang on someone else’s post. Your problem is not the same as the OP. Please post your own topic.

Djanice’s website couldn’t be a WordPress.com blog because he/she mentioned Godaddy and Updating (which isn’t an option on WordPress.com) blogs.

    Yes, thanks for that.

I was addressing Djanice the OP. I just have never seen that message before.
