unable to access database

  • when I login to mysql with wordpress credentials, I am unable to view word press database and also I am getting database connection error if I give wordrpress credentials in wp-config.php, whereas if I give root user credentials in wp-config.php, I am able to view the wordpress site.

    Plz help
