Using an external mail server to send out all wordpress emails, through the WP mail smtp plugin, we get activation emails sent correctly, but welcome emails are not.

This bug is independent of the external mail server, and happens across different external servers.

Other plugins that send mail, such as Newsletter, have a setting that allows administrators to select an external mail server.

  • Not sure if it will help or not, but I am not using the UM system to send welcome emails – instead I’m using Better Notifications (with the welcome disabled in UM) – those get sent out instantly like most others, like you said.

I’m finding some odd things with the overall UM email functionality as well. I just posted one a bit ago. There are conflicts and inconsistencies as to which system (UM vs WP) is doing the emailing in regards to new users, password reset requests and password changed notifications.

    Hi @dhyanor

Are you sending emails in HTML or plain text format? UM is using the built-in wp_mail function to send email notifications.
