• Hello,

    In the last few months or so, we have no longer been able to approve memberships reliably. Sometimes, we cannot approve the membership at all. At other times, we can approve them (by changing their status using UM Action > Approve Membership), but the status does not change in the Roles column of the user list. The automatic email notification does go out, but whoever is doing the approvals doesn’t have any indication that the role has changed.

    Then, if we change the role using the “Change role to…” drop down menu, the role column will update and no longer show “Pending Approval”.

    I’ve racked my mind to try and think what might be causing this… a recent update that is now incompatible with our other plugins? Some sort of caching issue? Cookie issue? I’ve optimized the database, cleared the user cache, cleared the server cache, my browser cache, reset some of the settings. What else could I try?

    Any tips or ideas would be much appreciated. Ultimate Member is a critical part of our e-commerce site, but with this new error the administrator often feels uncertain and frustrated.

    Found out why this is happening. For some reason, we had a role called “Pending Approval” and this was set as the default role in wordpress general settings. I changed the default role to “subscriber” and at least the approval system makes more sense now.

    Still not sure why we have to do the UM action “Approve Membership” AND change the role to the role we want the user to have in the Users manager. (…not the community role but the wp role)… but maybe that is because we are using the Woocommerce Prices by User Role plugin and getting this functionality working is different than the usual purpose of membership approval. Oh well.

    Looking forward to UM 2.0 – perhaps there will be something in this update that will solve my usability issues even more.
