Ultimate Member ignoring disabled updates

Why is Ultimate member ignoring disabled updates? Without any warning Ultimate Member is automatically updating production websites (three so far), even though we have the plugin disabled and the automatic updater disabled in wp-config. We don’t update production sites until the updates are tested in staging
How can I disable auto updates from Ultimate Member permanently?
